Our final project for Art 2 is wood carving. I decided to do Alice in Wonderland because I like the movie. First we all drew a the picture we wanted to carve. Then picked a board And changed the pictures to fit the size of the board. They are all the same size, but some of them have really annoying knots. Mine had two knots but they were at the very edges so they didn't cause to many problems. Then we had to transfer the picture on to the wood. We learned how to do that in Art 1 but it had been a while since I did it. We put the pictures against the window so we could see them thru the paper, and drew over them on the back. You have to make sure the entire picture is covered with a lot of lead. Then we put the picture on top of the board and traced the front with a pen. The lead on the back made a perfect copy on the wood. After that we could finally start carving. It took a while but it was really fun. When my carving was done I stained it. Some of my classmates painted their projects first and they look amazing! But I thought mine would look better just stained. Finally we covered our projects in polyurethane to protect them, which is why this picture looks so shiny. This was our last project for Art 2 but I signed up for Art 3 next semester and I can't wait to see what we do. |
